Care tips: Flamingo Flower (Anthuriums)
Flamingo Flowers (Anthurium andraenum & anthurium scherzeranium), belong to the Araceae family. They are native to Central and South America, and are a part of the greater Anthurium family which includes up to 900 different species. In Australia, these plants are known for their glossy green leaves, and waxy, brightly coloured spathes (often taken as the "flower") ranging from chocolate to purple, pink, red and white.
The blooms last 8-12 weeks at a time, and under optimal conditions can produce flowers throughout spring and summer - sometimes even into winter!
💧 Watering
- Moisture: Let the Kokedama dry out between watering. Don't keep them constantly moist.
☀️ Light & Temperature
-
Light: For healthy, long-lasting blooms, place the plant in bright, indirect light. A bright indoor space or shaded patio works well, but avoid direct sunlight - it will damage their shiny leaves.
-
- Climate: These tropical plants love 60–80% humidity. Group them with other plants, place the Kokedama and saucer on a pebble water tray, or position them in a naturally steamy bathroom.
- Pruning: Trim off spent or fading flowers and yellowing leaves using sharp, sterilised scissors to redirect the plant's energy toward new growth.
🐶🐱 Pet safety
- All Anthurium plants are toxic to your furry friends. Keep out of reach of taste testers!
