Care tips: Cape Ivy (Senecio macroglossus)

The Cape Ivy (also known as Wax Ivy) is a delightful trailing plant with succulent stems and waxy, ivy-like leaves.  Related to the  String of Pearls plant, it's native to South Africa where it is found growing wild on the forest floor.

Over time given the right conditions, this plant will display delicate yellow daisy-like flowers. In bright light conditions, the leaf edges may take on a pink-purple tint.

💧 Watering
  • Moisture: Let the plant dry out between watering. As this is a semi-succulent plant, they can tolerate periods of drought. Better to water less than too much!
☀️ Light & Temperature
  • Light:  Position in a bright spot for the best variegation and colours.
  • Climate: Keep between 8–27°C. Avoid drafts from heating and air-conditioning.
✂️ Maintenance
  • Foliage dropping: Generally a sign of temperature stress. Move the plant to a more consistent temperature.
  • Yellowing foliage: The plant is likely receiving too much water. Let the plant dry out completely between waterings.

🐶🐱 Pet safety

  • The Cape Ivy is toxic if consumed, so keep out of reach of your pets.
