Care tips: Peperomia family
Peperomias are a large and diverse genus of tropical and subtropical plants native to Central and South America, widely grown as compact, low-maintenance houseplants. Known for their striking foliage, they are highly adaptable, non-toxic to pets, and thrive in bright, indirect light. There are over 1000 species of peperomia, some of which you will find throughout the year in our store. Some examples include the Watermelon Peperomia, Raindrop Peperomia, Little Jade and Emerald Ripple.
💧 Watering
- Moisture: This plant prefers to dry out between drinks, so definitely wait until the plant is light and dry before giving it a soak. Overwatering is a popular way to unalive your peperomia.
☀️ Light & Temperature
- Light: Keep your Peperomia in a brightly lit spot, out of harsh direct sunlight which can scorch the leaves. They will also tolerate medium to low indirect light, making them an excellent fit for office spaces or indoors. Note: lower light may reduce the vibrancy of their colouring.
-
Climate: Keep between 18–25°C. Avoid drafts from heating and air-conditioning.
✂️ Maintenance
- Removing Flowers: Peperomias often produce spindly, green-brown flower spikes. Because flowering takes a lot of energy away from foliage growth, you can cleanly trim these spikes off at their base if you prefer the focus to be on the leaves.
🐶🐱 Pet safety
- All peperomia are non-toxic and completely safe for your furry friends.
