Care tips: Polka Dot Plant (Begonia maculata wightii)
The Polka Dot Plant (Begonia maculata wightii) is a native of Brazil and features large, angel-wing shaped leaves with delicate silver spots on top and a striking red underside of the leaf. From spring through to autumn you can expect to see delicate flowers ranging from white to a light pink on show.
💧 Watering
- Drought tolerance: This plant prefers to completely dry out between drinks, so definitely wait until the Kokedama is light and dry before giving it a soak.
☀️ Light & Temperature
- Light: Place in medium to bright filtered, indirect light. Strictly avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
-
Climate: Keep between 18–24°C. Avoid drafts from heating and air-conditioning.
✂️ Maintenance
- Pruning: Pinch off the tips occasionally or prune in spring to encourage bushier growth. As a cane begonia, it may grow tall and require staking or a small trellis for support.
🐶🐱 Pet safety
- All parts of the Begonia are toxic to pets if ingested, so keep them out of reach.
